The cost of many sustainable smart technologies has dramatically reduced in recent years, making the concept of a SMART Community viable from technical and economic perspectives.
The s2e vision is to demonstrate through proven technology that desirable sustainable communities can be built, while providing more value at a lower life-cycle cost. Areas of focus include on-site renewable energy generation, energy storage, water management, transportation, food and lifestyle.
West 5 project
The largest SMART city (community) in the world (North America), located in West London, Ontario, Canada. A planned urban development with an area of 70 acres, containing 2,000 housing units, 300,000 square feet of commercial space and 100,000 square feet of executive spaces.
It includes the development of each element of the urban environment according to a sustainable strategy, which allows for generation of own energy, taking advantage of the water capacities of the region, and generating spaces of social interaction that allow the birth of a community.
SMART Communities are focused on connecting people; Achieving significant savings in resources and time for SMART Community families to devote more to themselves, members of their families, their community, and their planet.
With a strong team on their side, s2e has partnered with Sifton and London Hydro to bring the largest SMART Community in North America to London, Ontario.
With the goal of achieving net zero energy and water consumption, electric vehicle-readiness and a smart grid infrastructure.
The design and planning phase has since begun. To ensure the project meets the end goals—achieve net zero energy and low-impact water consumption, be electric vehicle (EV)-ready, and run on a smart grid—additional partnering with strategic international companies is being pursued.
We walked the streets of London, Ontario and asked one simple question…
